Old Scratch Projects

costume1.1 Created with Sketch.

One day as a young loop in ye olde 2013, I came home from school and was excited to learn that the current month's issue of ASK had arrived in the mail. As I was reading through, I came across this article about Scratch. Via this website, I could drag and snap blocks together to code my own programs! Some time later, I created an account and immediately fell in love with creating my own Scratch games and projects. I created several bangers, such as Cat World and MIphone. I fondly recall waking up at the crack of dawn during summer break to work on games on my dad's crappy Windows 8 laptop. I was active every day through ~2016, and proselytized about this amazing website to any of my friends who would entertain it. I liked telling stories, exploration-based games, silly jokes, and short animations. I also liked to join MAPs, or Multiple Animator Projects. These are programs where a handful of people sign up to animate a short clip of a song, then they are put together at the end to form a whole music video. I have only ever seen one completed, but it was fun to make the 10-20 second clips anyways. This ASK article and the Scratch website / community are the reason why I am currently studing computer science in college :-).
This page is a collection of some of my favorite projects I made (or at least the ones I spent the most time on). If you like these and want to see more, please check out my Scratch profile @petra8. I also highly recommend exploring Scratch, as there are a lot of cool projects!

(WIP) Painting the Wall Simulator

Game last updated: 6/6/2018.

Original Instructions:

Hi! This project is not done yet, but here is what I have so far...

Most everything is said in the game, but here it is again in case you miss it:

- Press space to advance

- In the store, click the aisle numbers and arrows to navigate.

- In the sort game, click and drag items into their respective places. If you don't know, just guess.

Other help if you get stuck:

- Try clicking on everything. It's mostly idiot-proof.

Most of this project was worked on between my 7th and 8th grade school years (12 yo). I recently replayed it for the first time since I made it, and am surprised at how well it holds up! I think this is a really fun concept and I might come back and remake / finish this game. -7/27/24

This is probably the Scratch project I spend the most time on. I think I started this when I was in 5th grade (9-10 yo). It is hard to follow if you aren't the person who made it because of all the keyboard commands, but exploring the map is still cool. Some of the dialog gets cut off by the list and buttons at the top, which is either because you are not viewing this page on my grandma's macbook or from UI changes of Scratch 3.0. -7/27/24

Rewind -- A Platformer: Including Watermelons, Scratch Cat, and Gray Squares

Game last updated: 5/9/2016

Original Instructions:

I made another game.

You are in a movie. However, it is an animated movie and you have little control over your actions! Everything you do always ends up the way the creators want it to... except-- You and the other movie characters have managed to take over the rewind button! Small changes occur in the past every time you use it. The rewind button is a bit glitchy... so you need to see your friend Gobo, who knows more about the rewind button. To get to Gobo, you need to find your way to the Grand Castle. To find the Grand Castle, you need to find Tetra, the Keeper of the Maps. She lives in the Forgotten Woods. To find the Forgotten Woods, you need to find Pico... who lives in The Village. Good luck on your quest!

- Arrow keys.
- To wall-jump, hold the up and right arrow keys at the same time.
- When an item appears and you need to open it, click it to open it.

HINTS-
- If you can't solve a level, go inside and drag Scratch Cat to the right edge.
- Glitching is the actual answer to two of the levels. To glitch, get as close to the small item in your way as you possibly can, then turn around the other way.
- I don't know ask in the comments if you have anymore problems

What a silly story! -7/27/24
